Growing a flourishing tree canopy for all of Lexington
We plant trees and inspire people to grow a more vibrant community.
Trees Lexington is a non-profit that brings people together to dig into the fun and fulfilling work of expanding and maintaining our local tree canopy. Our community tree plantings, tree giveaways, and educational workshops on proper tree care play an important role in growing a healthy and equitable tree canopy. Trees are essential to human health and well-being. They play a pivotal role in addressing climate change, air pollution, water quality, and the heat island effect in urban and industrial areas. We rely on them for the air we breath, the cooling shade they provide, and the beauty they add to our landscapes. Trees are essential habitat for wildlife, including birds, moths, butterflies, and bees. Our goal is to protect and expand Lexington's urban forest, supporting a citywide endeavor to increase our tree canopy from 25% to 30% in the next 10-15 years. We partner with schools, places of worship, neighborhood associations and HOAs, businesses, and local government to plant the right trees in the right places, ensuring a healthy, long-lived urban forest.
